“Often, it becomes my responsibility to ensure the voices of half the population are represented”
In a week marked by International Women's Day, which brings together not only a celebration of the achievements made by women throughout history, but also a series of challenges that we as a society still have to face - and where sport is no exception - the Thinking Football Summit sought to hear from women in leading positions in sport, to learn about their stories, reflections and challenges.
To Thinking Football Summit, Sandra Lopez, who has worked for more than 20 years in major technology companies, like Microsoft, Intel or Adobe, the tech world still struggles with representation:
“Just as women remain underrepresented in tech leadership, the same holds true in sports. But a wave of positive developments is creating an unprecedented opportunity for women to lead across the entire sports ecosystem. From the 'Swiftie effect' to sold-out women's soccer stadiums and the 'Clarkonomics' phenomenon, the undeniable influence of women is creating a powerful tailwind for female leadership.”
Drawing a parallel with the world of sport, Sandra believes that "positivity is creating an unprecedented opportunity for women to lead in the entire sports ecosystem":
"While the tech industry has made strides towards overall full representation, the key word remains 'limited'. Often, as the sole woman in the room, it becomes my responsibility to ensure the voices of half the population are represented. This is crucial because we want to guarantee that products and services are designed with the needs of all users in mind."
