The General Assembly decided to allocate 2.3 million euros as financial support;
The General Assembly of the European Leagues, which took place last Thursday, at Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, in a joint organization between Liga Portugal and European Leagues, agreed to allocate 2.3 million euros to the Ukrainian league, as financial support from the European Leagues to the organization that governs the domestic league in that country.
"We have been in contact with the Ukrainian league in recent months. This sum will be very significant for them to be able to conclude the sports season. We have to highlight here the effort of the Ukrainian league, the clubs, players and the Government in giving people something that is not related to the war," explained Jacco Swart, Director General of the European Leagues, this Friday at a press conference of the Thinking Football Summit.
Pedro Proença, President of Liga Portugal, stressed the importance of this financial support to the Ukrainian league and the co-organization of the General Assembly. "It was an honour for Liga Portugal to host this meeting. We are a member of the Board of Directors, which reveals our positioning. This allocation for the Ukrainian league is very important and shows the unity of the European leagues," Pedro Proença said.
In addition to the financial support for the Ukrainian league, the General Assembly marked the admission of three new members, with the inclusion of the leagues of Malta, Bulgaria and Albania.
The next General Assembly is scheduled to take place in Prague, Czech Republic, on the 20th and 21st of April 2023.
