Champions League title pushes Real Madrid up TikTok ranking

First, they won an electrifying, extra time semifinal against Manchester City. Then, a little less than a month later, Real Madrid beat Liverpool to lift the UEFA Champions League Trophy for the 14th time in club history. A remarkable campaign filled with drama and plenty of visual, viral, memorable moments.

The Merengues were brilliant off the pitch as well to ride that wave to huge numbers in their social media platforms. Among those, TikTok is the one which best highlights Real Madrid's use of videos. The Spanish saw their number of followers grow by 4.3 million (36.59%) during April and May and moved up from fifth to second place in the European clubs ranking compiled by Italian group IQUII Sport.

PSG still holds the lead firmly with 27.2 million followers on TikTok and a 6,25% growth in relation to the previous ranking. Real Madrid now tallies 16.8 million followers after overtaking Tottenham (16.5), Barcelona (15.9) and Manchester Unite (15.3) all at once. Current top 10 still includes Juventus, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Champions League runners-up Liverpool were second in growth percentage in the period (18.67%), but not enough to move up in the rankings. They remain in eighth right behind FC Bayern with 8.9 million followers.

In their report, IQUII Sport takes into account 10 countries: England, Russia, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Ukraine. They claim to analyse numbers from 15 leagues and 288 clubs. Their latest numbers - the ones mentioned in this article - are from April 11 to May 30, 2022.
